September is a busy birthday month in our family. My father-in-law, daughter, and I all celebrate during this month, with Kelsey's birthday only 3 days before mine. Needless to say, if you want a cake around the 21st of this month, you have to book early!
This year, my daughter couldn't focus on a single theme - every other week for the last six months she changed her mind, and none of the ideas intertwined. "I want an art party... no an under the sea party... no a construction party... no an engineering party". The time came to send out invitations, and she was still picking new themes, but she really liked a pink comic book looking invite we found on Evite. Once she decided on the invitation, it was a natural progression to a girly superhero cake. Crowned with a fondant Super Kelsey, of course!
Once complete, the fondant topper was about 8" tall. The model insisted she have her picture taken with her likeness. She had a great time with her school friends, and we were beyond blessed that so many were able to come celebrate with her.
We were fortunate to have my in-laws stay with us this year on my father-in-laws birthday. We went to Babe's Chicken Dinner House, and I made Granddad an Italian Cream cake.
Nothing says "Happy Birthday" like a chicken hat (Caleb stole mine)!
In case you were wondering, no, I did not make my own birthday cake. I pretty much don't eat cake anymore... after you test a million recipes out to find the perfect vanilla cake, and then repeat for every other flavor, you kind of give it up! Instead, we went to Braum's, and I had a very birthday worthy cup of Strawberry Cheesecake ice cream. Yummm!
