The open house at River Road Chateau was a couple of weeks ago, and I just finally got around to getting the pictures off my camera. I love, love, love how this cake I took to the open house turned out!
This cake has a rustic buttercream bottom and top tier, and the middle tier is a green double barrel covered with pearls in a classic Swiss dot design. What's a double barrel? It's basically two cake tiers of the same size stacked and iced so that it looks like a single, tall tier. There is a support plate with pillars in the middle of that tier, so all the guests are still served the same size cake slices.
Varying the height of the tiers creates visual interest, and I thought this tall middle tier was the perfect spot to highlight a monogram by creating a vintage looking picture frame around the initial. Both the frame and monogram were made from pink fondant and then brushed with an edible gold sheen.
This cake would look great in a number of venues. It's rustic, elegant, and vintage all in one sweet cake!
