This is another display wedding cake I took to the bridal show a few weeks ago, and it received the most compliments of all the cakes on my table from those attending the event. Rustic and vintage are in!
These tiers were iced in buttercream and looked like a tree trunk. I added a cascade of paper flowers down the front of the cake which gave it the vintage feel I was looking to create. I added a fondant disc to the back of each little flower so they could first be attached to the cake and second so they could be easily removed for serving if this were a real cake. A cake this size would serve 130.
This cake was one of the display cakes I took to the Bear Creek Ranch Bridal show. The bottom tier is two 8" Styrofoam cakes stacked into what looks like a single eight inch high cake, but (if it were a real cake) it would still be supported like a cake with three tiers. This size cake would serve 60.
This cake was iced in vanilla buttercream and then was accented with blue buttercream. The cake was topped with a large wafer paper flower with petals cascading down the side of the top tier. I could easily see a design like this at a beach themed wedding or at a reception held at an art museum.
This past weekend, I participated in Sweet By Design's first Bridal Show. It was at Bear Creek Ranch in Nevada, Texas which is about 15 or 20 miles east of 75. This venue is really unique, and has a neat history, including a private concert given by George Strait. The main room, which was originally a barn, can be easily flipped from ceremony to reception, and outside that main room are the horse stalls that have been converted to a bar and gathering area. The owner has added a bridal cabin which offers the bride and her friends a large space to get ready, and it includes salon chairs, so her hair and make up artist will be right at home.
I was so excited to get a call a couple of weeks ago from Make-A-Wish® North Texas! They granted the wish of a girl who I later found out lives in my same neighborhood, and I was thrilled to have the opportunity to participate in her wish reveal party. Her wish was to travel to Hawaii, and how better to celebrate than with a Hawaiian themed party!
The cake was my chocolate fudge recipe, and it was filled with and iced in vanilla buttercream before being covered in fondant. The cake was then ready to be decorated with a sunset scene, ombre ruffle ocean waves, a Tiki head, and fondant hibiscus flowers.
